So you want to write a book
Congratulations, desire is the first step to accomplishing. Writing a book can be a fun and fulfilling adventure, but there can be some headaches along the way.
Knowing these cash help you avoid the pitfalls and get the most out of your experience.
There are many excellent books and sources available on how to write and publish your book. I've read many of them myself and while they do offer excellent advice they often stop short of telling you some of the things you need to know. You won't get that pandering here, I'm going to try to tell you where some of the pot holes are so you can avoid them or at least be aware of them.
WHAT do
you REALLY NEED to know to WRITE your own book?
Nothing happens till somebody writes something. Lets face it, writing a book is a difficult process. Writing a good book is something is something else altogether.
While we would all like to believe that what we have written is destined to be a bestseller, but few of us, myself probably included, will ever reach that status. That is not a good reason not to write. Bookstores are filled with books that will never reach the bestseller status but still fill a niche. A few simple tips can help you turn your ho hum book into one worthy of adorning bookstore shelves. |
Editing
Believe it or not writing the book can sometimes be the easiest part. Editing is another challenge; finding a good editor and going through the whole process can be a humbling but worthwhile experience.
Publishing
Now the real challenges begin. Publishers really don't want anything to do with you unless you're already famous. My article on Publishing and Self Publishing addresses some of these issues.
Promoting
And you thought the other steps were hard! Here you are, book in hand and you've already harassed all your family and friends to buy a copy. What next? This is where most people lose it. There are no easy answers but I'll try to address some of your concerns.
